King Street is a street within the historic core of George Town. It runs from Light Street to Chulia Street.
King Street dates to the late 18th century, and was already in the original grid laid out by Francis Light. By the mid-19th century and into the 20th, as Europeans moved away into the suburbs, wealthy Chinese began to buy up the real estate all the way until Light Street itself.
This Street is one of my favorite street. Southern place has Nagore shrine at the Junction with Chulia street. It is Penang’s oldest Indian-Muslim Shrine. In this zone-Little India- we can feel a very strong Indian influence. At the junction with Church street- almost center zone of King street- they have assemble building of five associations and temples facility with special shaped gable and open spaces design under the roof.
