Swettenham Pier was established in 1903, at the height of shipping activity in the Penang Ports. It was named after Frank Athelstane Swettenham (1850-1946), the first Resident General of the Federated Malay States between 1896 and 1901.
We can see the Luxurious passenger ships that came from all of the world anchor here almost every day. One day! I hope to sailing from this Pier with my wife.
We can see the Warehouse Buildings on the Left hand side of this painting. This is reminding that Penang was a huge marine transportation base in the colonial ages.
