Farquhar Street is one of the older streets in George Town
It was named after Robert Townsend Farquhar the Lieutenant Governor of Penang in 1804-1805.
Farquhar street was part of the great civic park which featured the Anglican and the Catholic churches, and the cradle of four of Penang’s greatest English-Medium schools- the Penang Free School(found1816),Convent Light Street (founded1852),St.Xavier’s Institution(Founded 1852)and St. George’s Girls’ School(Anglican Mission, founded 1885).

As a neighbor of St. Xavier’s Institution, there is a Equator Academy of Art. This facility was formally the mansion of Leong Fee, a tin-miner. When I was sketching on this Street I met an American Student. She has a interesting website - named”The Eat Team” with her university friends. It has a kind of newspaper on the website with articles coming from the report by themselves. It is about Eating, Art, Travel and live for our vest life. The other day they came to see me at the event place. She introduced my Art works in Penang on their website.

I can say that Farquhar Street is the street of Religion, Education and Friendship in Penang.
